Interstitial artist<\/span>: an interstitial artist lives in the space between things. They meet three criteria at once:<\/p>\n Solid grounds<\/span>: the familiar, mapped territories of knowledge: categories, disciplines, norms, cultures, professions, identities, stories, and systems. They are the places where things feel stable, ordered, and named, shaped by analysis, rules, and definitions.<\/p>\n New narratives<\/span>: emerging ways of thinking, living, and creating that take shape from the in-between spaces. They often come about from friction between elements that resist fixed forms, that shift, transform and move continuously.<\/p>\n Dynamic matter<\/span>: intangible, living material that exists in the interstices, impossible to pin down or possess. Trying to name its attributes exhaustively always falls short, but it might show up as bearing resemblance to the following: porosity, resonance, revelation, plasticity, fluidity, decentering. The interstitial artist works by sensing, moving with, and activating this matter.<\/p>\n Interstitial gathering<\/span>: a conversation between two or more artists, practitioners, researchers, and thinkers, grounded in real life and shared experience. It\u2019s a space for thoughtful, embodied dialogue that helps shape and carry forward interstitial research. An interstitial gathering is always public in a broad sense: whether it happens in private or with an audience, it leaves an open, shareable trace such as a text, a podcast, a recording, a video.<\/p>\n Non-exhaustivity<\/span>: a core principle of interstitial creation. It doesn\u2019t try to say everything or hold everything. Every word, every gesture, every form is an opening, not a conclusion. What is left unsaid or unseen is not a gap ; it\u2019s part of the whole. Non-exhaustivity is not incompletion, it is a form of accuracy.<\/p>\n Interstitial jurisprudence<\/span>: a living framework that doesn\u2019t impose rules but holds the memory of a passage: the passage an artistic, ethical, or relational gesture that has moved through the undefined with care and clarity. Each interstitial gesture creates a precedent \u2014 not something to copy, but something that can be carried forward in spirit. Interstitial jurisprudence doesn\u2019t create laws; it holds precedents. It gives weight to quiet acts that shift boundaries without needing to redraw the latter entirely.
