manifesto of interstitial creation

I. We dwell in interstices.

In fertile cracks, open breaches, nameless areas where nothing is yet determined. From here, unexpected forms arise: felt knowledge, embodied thought, experiences without a manual.

We create in dimly lit areas, at thresholds ; where categories waver.

The in-between is a territory. It is a living space.

Interstitial creation is a state, not a method. It is an existential act ; not something we do, but something we are. It asks for watchfulness, for listening, for radical presence. It unfolds in echo to our breathing, within the texture of the moment. It does not seek to grasp or dominate reality ; rather to attune to it.

We do not choose the in-between. It moves through us.

II. We reject straight lines.

We are transdisciplinary, but above all, we are indisciplinary. We do not obey fixed frameworks of knowledge or creation. We do not submit to systems of assignment. We flourish in the unstable and the incomplete, where live the stories we didn’t know we knew.

We refuse fixed borders: between art and thought, between feeling and science, between the real and the imagined. We resist anything that locks or divides ; for the interstice is movement, it is a crossing. We desire no knowledge that is confined to its own ground, no creation that is detained in one place.

Every attempt at erecting fences, by defining, objectifying or categorizing, leads us back to solid land, where there is no interstice.

III. We call to the texture of the world.

Interstices are minute events in matter. They emerge from the slightest shift in the grain of reality. They call on all our senses. These almost invisible alterations in the texture of the everyday are our raw material.

We are many, fragmentary, ever-changing. We weave connection from our fragmentation. For everything comes to life in-between.

Interstitial creation does not point to a single direction. It opens walkable paths for others.

An interstice exists only for itself. It is not an example of anything. It does not illustrate. It does not model.

We call for interstitial jurisprudence. A way of doing justice to what eludes us.
